I will not lose the elections' Pres. Jonathan tells AlJazeera in new interview

In an interview with Al-Jazeera TV which aired yesterday, President Jonathan said that he'll not lose the upcoming Presidential election. He also said the increase in the activities of Boko Haram in Nigeria is not as a result of his mishandling of the group and that Boko Haram did not start with him. Speaking about Jega, the president said he's never had any discussions with anyone to remove him. He affirmed that the elections will not be postponed again

President Jonathan meets with youths in Lagos

Meet The President was organised by PVC - Participate, Vote, Country - a group of young Nigerian professionals, businessmen and entrepreneurs. The group is the brainchild of Audu Maikori, Chioma Emetanjo, Ohimai Amaize, Aziza Uko among others.

About 5000 youths were at the event which held on Sunday at Eko Hotel. Nollywood actors and actresses, music artistes, young professionals, politicians and the creme of young Nigerians graced the event.

Jega About To Be Forced Out Before 2015 Presidential Polls

Pressure mounted, weekend, on the presidency not to compel Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof. Attahiru Jega to proceed on pre-retirement leave as reportedly being canvassed by some concerned stakeholders in the polity.

The anti-Jega forces had been pushing the presidency to remove the chairman from office, a move that was last night described as dangerous by notable lawyers. The pressure came in the face of heightened tension in the commission over the alleged moves. The chairman’s five-year term comes to an end on June 30 and though he is qualified for re-appointment, the chances of such have become remote given recent allegations of bias against the chairman by campaign officials of President Goodluck Jonathan.

Soldiers rescue girl from suspected ritualist

LUCK ran out of a suspected 64-year-old ritualist, Michael,who lured an 11-year-old girl, Faith Irabor, from Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area, Delta State, to his home at Egbudu Akah, Aniocha area of the state, today, as he was caught by soldiers.

Faith was hawking sachet water at the popular Uromi Junction, along Benin City-Asaba expressway when Michael showed up and after allegedly hypnotizing her, took her on a motor-cycle to Egbudu Akah.

Jonathan visits recaptured Adamawa towns from Boko Haram

President Goodluck Jonathan made a brief visit to Adamawa State yesterday to see for himself some of the recaptured towns from Boko Harm in the state.

Jonathan was accompanied on the visit by the Service Chiefs including the Chief of Defence Staff, Chief Marshal Alex Badeh, the Chief of Army Staff, COAS, Air Staff, the Inspector of General of Police and the National Security Adviser among other military top brass.

Zimbabwe: Miner Dies After Inhaling Substance

AUTHORITIES at Duration Gold's Vumbachikwe mine are being accused of negligence and failing to meet basic safety measures after a miner inhaled an unspecified substance and died.

Edson Sibindi, who was laid to rest in a moving ceremony in Gwanda Wednesday, suffocated and died instantly at the mine's storeroom after inhaling the deadly substance.
